1-on-1 with Warriors fan the "Gold Suit Man"

Warriors World

Recently, Dunk Contest sat with the "Gold Suit Man," one of the Warriors' biggest fans, for a 1-on-1 conversation.

How the “Gold Suit Man” got started…

The Gold Suit Man started in the 2013 playoff series against the Denver Nuggets when I was 17 years old. I didn't get a chance to go to any playoff games in 2007, so this was my first Warriors playoff game and I searched all over my house for anything gold or blue. I found an old, torn up, gold-sequined jacket and I wore it to the game. The atmosphere in the arena that night was surreal and after Andrew Bogut posterized Javale McGee, the camera caught me going nuts. I thought that was pretty funny, so I kept wearing the jacket to games the following season and the cameras kept finding me during the dance cam. That's how it all started, and I've since upgraded the suit to what it is today.

Earliest Warriors memory…

My mom took me to my first Warriors game when I was in middle school, and it was right at a time when I was really getting into playing ball. It was against Dwyane Wade's Miami Heat. Even though the Dubs were bottom-feeders, it was amazing to see the professionals at work. Soon after, my family started getting ticket plans each season and we all fell in love with the team. Now, we're season ticket holders for a championship team, and I never could have foreseen this. It's been an amazing ride.

Best game you’ve attended…

The best game I've attended as Gold Suit Man was Game 4 of the Warriors/Nuggets playoff series in 2013. Steph really broke out during that season and he dropped 23 points in the 3rd quarter. Every shot he buried was met with a thunderous roar like none I'd ever heard before.

I've been to some more exciting games since then, but I'll always remember that one for being the first time I felt the full potential of Oracle's power.

Reaction from fans…

I'm always blown away by the reaction I get at games. With a constantly growing fan base like we have now, I never know if people will recognize me, especially after missing so many games in the regular season because of college. It's a lot of fun to interact with fans though, man. I'm very appreciative of the positive responses I've gotten from people over the years.

Coolest person you’ve met while in the Gold Suit…

The coolest person I've met has to be Stephen Curry. I was lucky enough to share the stage with him along with Andre Iguodala, Festus Ezeli and Harrison Barnes at the NBPA Players Awards in Vegas, and interacting with him was a dream come true.

KD to the Warriors…

When we signed KD, I was sitting in my buddy's car in a Safeway parking lot. I kept refreshing Twitter until I saw his Player's Tribune article pop up, and when I saw that he chose the Warriors I leaped out of the car and nearly tackled my friend who was coming back with groceries. I like the signing; it sucks to lose the quality guys that we did but I can't be opposed to picking up a force like KD. It's going to be a fun season!
