Warriors Art brings you an in-depth look at artwork inspired by the Golden State Warriors. Recently, Dunk Contest sat with the Illumanaries.

How did the Illuminaries get started?

Back in High School, we were inspired by art through painting and graffiti.  Being able to express ourselves through art was something that really motivated us. Learning new methods of art and then transitioning to digital graphics and design was key for us.  We started doing graffiti around town and now are painting murals with big-time companies. It's been pretty awesome to see how its all evolved through the years.

How did the Stephen Curry mural at Jamtown come about?

Under Armour and Hypebeast contacted us through Instagram and shared the idea with us.  They really wanted us to paint the mural and it was on a crazy deadline! We had about 5 days to finish the project.

Part of the idea of painting the mural at Jamtown was to inspire and motivate the kids who come to work out, practice and play there on a daily basis.

It's also dope that it's right on Highway 880 and everyday there's thousands upon thousands of people who get to see it everyday.

Share with us details on the Mac-Dre & Stephen Curry mural in Oakland…

That mural took 3 days from start to finish and had a real grassroots feel to it.  We picked this abandoned building in an isolated part of the neighborhood and really brought it to life through art.  Once we decided on the location, we immediately got to work.  We got the paint, we got donations from the community and made it happen.  It was cool to have the community involved in the project and really give it that neighborly love.

On being Warriors fans and creating art through fandom…

We've been fans are whole lives!  I remember going to Warriors basketball camps as a kid and having the time of my life.  I got to sit on Don Nelson's lap and take a photo and shoot around with Tim Hardaway, priceless memories as a kid.  Being able to create art around our favorite team is dope because it brings are passions together to create something memorable not only for us but for the entire DubNation.
